TORONTO and MONTREAL – The Independent Production Fund (IPF) invested $1.8 million in 14 new English and French-language web drama series in 2015.
The scripted drama series (9 English / 5 French) are designed and produced for exploitation on the web and represent a range of genres including comedy, action, thriller, sci-fi, horror and mystery for different target demographics and distribution platforms.
According to the IPF’s 2015 annual report, this is the sixth year that the IPF has undertaken this unique funding program which is designed to encourage Canada’s competitive skills in the digital story-telling world and the marketing and exploitation of Canadian digital productions to global audiences.
The Independent Production Fund was established in 1991 to provide financial support for dramatic television series created by Canadian independent producers for Canadian private broadcasters. In 2010, the IPF expanded its mandate to include an experimental pilot program to include financing of drama series for the web. This program has now been extended indefinitely and will continue to support content creators of drama series created for the web or mobile platforms.
