Insight dips into sports world for big name

TORONTO – IMG senior executive Kevin Albrecht has joined Insight Sports Ltd. as president and CEO, the company announced Tuesday.

Current CEO Ron Bremner will become the new vice-chairman of the board. (Just so there’s no confusion, Mark Rubinstein remains as president and COO of Insight Sports Networks, a position he has held at the company since 2005.)

Insight Sports operates three specialty television networks: CGTV, Casino and Gaming Television; GOLTV Canada, a 24-hour soccer network; and WFN: World Fishing Network, North America’s only network devoted entirely to fishing. The company also holds a significant interest in the NHL Network, a 24-hour hockey channel.

Insight Sports also creates and distributes sports and entertainment content across multiple platforms, including broadcast television, DVD, on-line, mobile, in-arena and video on demand. Based in Toronto, the principal shareholders of Insight Sports include Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum (Kilmer Enterprises Inc., a subsidiary of Kilmer Van Nostrand) and MWI & Partners, a private equity fund.

"Ron Bremner’s leadership and management skills will be a tremendous asset to the Insight board of directors and senior management team," said today’s press release. "Mr. Bremner is also president of the Gold Medal Consulting Group Ltd. of King City, Ont., specializing in management consulting, leadership training and keynote speaking. He most recently served as chairman/CEO of Professional Sports Publications in New York, NY. From 1996 to 2001, Bremner was president, CEO and Alternate Governor of the NHL’s Calgary Flames and the Pengrowth Saddledome."

Albrecht has acquired extensive sports management and media expertise over the past sixteen years at IMG, where he was SVP, managing director of Canada and most recently head of global business development. IMG is an international management company specializing in sports, media and entertainment and represents the likes of professional golfers Tiger Woods and Mike Weir, top tennis pro Roger Federer and broadcasters like Bob Costas and John Madden.
