LONDON, Ont. – Independent ISP Start.ca this week announced further improvements to its internet plans, with cost reductions and speed improvements.
After lowering prices and increasing speeds on several internet plans last month thanks to the CRTC’s recent decision on third party internet access (TPIA) wholesale rates, the company said Thursday more plans will be getting faster or more affordable.
The changes will affect over 14,000 existing Start.ca customers, who will now see either more money in their pockets or a free speed increase next month.
We asked for a few more details from Start.ca CEO Peter Rocca who told us that the prior improvements targeted higher tier plans, but “these new changes apply mostly to the mid-tier plans, where some customers will see their speeds almost double and others may see a $5 or $10/month savings depending on what they had before,” he said in an email.
The company says it makes a decision between more speed or a discount “based on a combination of the plan’s speed, price and technology capabilities, along with if they had been on a grandfathered plan that we can now improve to a current retail offering,” he added.
Based in London, Start.ca has been providing internet service throughout Ontario for almost 25 years. It offers fibre, cable, and DSL internet, as well as TV, home phone services and business internet and data centre services.
