"Illegal" is accurate, says CBSC

OTTAWA – Both Global National and CTV British Columbia were correct in reporting on a refugee case when they said the claimant was in Canada illegally, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council said today. A group calling itself Media Watch complained about two different news reports about a deportation order which was broadcast on the two channels on January 9, 2008. The complainant was concerned “about the lack of accuracy and comprehensiveness in recent media coverage” of this particular refugee case.
