OTTAWA — The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) and the co-op work term and professional development services of the Université de Sherbrooke are joining forces to support the development of new talent for the digital economy.
To achieve this, the two partners announced Tuesday they have agreed to increase the number of internship placements in digital fields and will work together to establish fruitful ties with the companies involved.
Eligible employers who employ Université de Sherbrooke interns may receive a subsidy to cover part of the salaries offered. The employer could receive up to 50% of the salary paid to the intern or a maximum of $5,000. This amount could be increased to 70% of the salary or to a maximum of $7,000 for interns from an under-represented group, the news release says. The ICT sectors targeted are entertainment and gaming, cybersecurity, clean technology, intelligent retailing, connected transport, e-health, financial technology, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and big data. This activity is funded by the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP).
The mission of the co-op work term and professional development services of the Université de Sherbrooke is to create strong and innovative links between the student community, employers and faculties in order to offer outstanding work experiences that will contribute to the fulfillment of all, reads the news release.
