Hurst leaves CTV News

TORONTO – Robert Hurst is stepping down as president of CTV News and Current Affairs, the network announced Wednesday.

Hurst has been with CTV for 38 years after being named as news director of CFTO News in Toronto when he was only 26 years old.  Named president in September, 2002, he is also known as an award-winning reporter, foreign correspondent, news editor, and author.  He ranks as one of the best at his craft that Canada has ever produced.

“Bob goes out a winner with CTV News standing tall as Canada’s #1 news,” said president and CEO, Ivan Fecan, in the announcement.

“Bob took an already successful news organization and lifted it even higher,” said Susanne Boyce, president, creative, content and channels, CTV Inc.  “In his time as president, he has cultivated our news team, both on-air and off-air, nationally and locally, to become the best there is.”

“CTV News has been #1 for 22 years,” said Hurst (pictured). “The reporting team is the best in Canada and well positioned to remain #1 for many years.”

He will remain with CTV News until his successor is named in the coming weeks. No reason was given for his departure.
