TORONTO – There’s no business like show business, as meteorologist Harold Hosein has found out. The 17-year veteran weatherman on Toronto’s Citytv told The Sun that he was fired with no reason last weekend.
A Citytv spokesperson told cartt.ca in an email that “Harold is no longer with us. He has decided to move on. He is launching a new business venture in the fall.”
According to the Sun report, Hosein has no plans to start his own business. "I didn’t leave, I was pushed out," he is quoted as saying.
The 66-year-old was apparently shoved aside to make way for the youthful Michael Kuss, who moves from Global TV to Citytv on June 26.
Citytv News director Stephen Hurlbut was quoted in the article as saying he’s watched Kuss’s career since he was a weatherman on Edmonton’s A-Channel. He’s quoted in a CHUM news release as saying that Kuss is the “perfect person” to lead the multi-platform weather content on CityNews, CP24, citynews.ca, and wireless.
Before stepping in front of the camera, Hosein had worked as a meteorologist for Environment Canada for 21 years. On Thursday, Hosein’s profile had already been taken off the Citytv Web site among the station’s personalities.
The Trinidad-born Hosein is keeping his radio job as staff meteorologist with Rogers’ flagship 680 News. He is certified by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.
