TORONTO – Having recently lost a couple of its stars, HGTV today made sure Mike Holmes, host of its popular series Holmes on Homes, wasn’t going anywhere.
The Alliance Atlantis-owned channel announced today it has signed a three year host and development deal with Holmes – winner of the Viewers Choice Award at the 2004 Gemini Awards. Holmes on Homes has been the No. 1 program on HGTV since summer 2004.*
"We are delighted to announce our exclusive new deal with Mike," said Kirstine Layfield, senior vice president lifestyle programming, Alliance Atlantis Communications. "From the moment he first appeared on HGTV, Mike has struck a chord with our viewers with his ‘do it right’, no-nonsense approach to contracting combined with brawny sex-appeal. His integrity makes him a hero for the everyman."
Given the fact that Debbie Travis and Lynda Reeves, both popular hosts with Alliance Atlantis, will now be on Global Television in the fall, the company was eager to keep the popular Holmes.
"I’m very happy to continue to build on my relationship with HGTV," said Holmes in the release. "We share a common vision to make it right."
He has more than 20 years of professional experience under his belt, from plumbing to electrical to carpentry. Holmes learned all aspects of renovation and construction under the watchful eye of his dad and capitalizing on this valuable apprenticeship, Mike founded his own renovation company and to date has completed hundreds of bathrooms, kitchens, additions, decks, as well as many major commercial office spaces.
He has also encountered countless horror stories from clients and friends who have been taken for a ride by unscrupulous contractors and builders.
