Hollywood Suite gets exclusive Canadian rights to ‘The Last Movie Stars’

TORONTO — Hollywood Suite said last week that it has exclusive broadcasting rights to the HBO Max Original and CNN Films documentary series The Last Movie Stars, with six-hour long episodes premiering on Thursdays starting January 12.

Directed by Ethan Hawke and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the docuseries “celebrates the enigmatic personas, incredible talent, and captivating love story of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward,” a press release from December 15 said.

“Partners on screen and in life, the pair’s unparalleled dedication to their craft, philanthropy, and one another is brought to life by readings of long-lost transcribed interviews with Newman, Woodward, and those closest to them,” it added.

The series, which will also be available on demand starting January 12, features actors including George Clooney, Laura Linney, Sally Field, Oscar Isaac, Karen Allen, Ewan McGregor, Sam Rockwell, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Zoe Kazan.

“The Last Movie Stars is an intimate portrait of classic Hollywood royalty,” said Sharon Stevens, vice president of programming at Hollywood Suite, which owns and operates four exclusive HD channels featuring movies that “defined the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.”

“With masterful direction from Ethan Hawke, one of the most iconic stars of this generation, the docuseries effortlessly weaves old Hollywood glamour with new Hollywood A-list stars, who deliver insights based on their own personal experiences on and off screen,” Stevens added. “The series fits beautifully within Hollywood Suite’s existing catalogue of films from the Golden Age of cinema to today, bringing historical context to film with a modern sensibility.”
