TORONTO — Canadian designer Sarah Richardson undertakes her most ambitious project yet in her latest series for HGTV Canada, premiering this fall. Sarah Off The Grid will follow Richardson and her family as they design and build an off-the-grid, sustainable dream home in Creemore, Ont.

Premiering Sunday, September 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT during HGTV Canada’s free preview month, the six-part Sarah Off The Grid series offers an unvarnished look at Richardson’s day-to-day as she juggles being a business owner, a mother to her two young daughters Robin and Fiona, and now, the challenges of sharing the role of general contractor with her husband, Alex Younger, on this latest build.

Taking the lead on designing each room, Richardson enlists long-time collaborator Tommy Smythe for support as she takes on this year-long project. With Smythe’s help, Richardson finds design solutions that will stand the test of time while staying true to her classic and casually elegant signature style. Fellow HGTV Canada stars Mike Holmes, Mike Holmes Jr., and Colin Hunter also make guest appearances throughout the series to offer much needed advice as Richardson and her family build their forever home.

The challenge of building a home off the main power grid that can service the needs of an entire family requires clever design decisions and innovative materials. Richardson and Younger work together to create the infrastructure to run the home, while leveraging unique sources of heat and lighting. The couple use a rebuilt heritage barn to house both the garage and the solar panels to generate electricity, and overcome the challenges of digging a well to pull enough water to service the family’s needs.

Exclusive bonus content from the show, including design tips from Richardson, sustainable living and lifestyle content, and extended reveals, can be found at hgtv.ca throughout the series run. Episodes of Sarah Off The Grid will be available online on the day following broadcast.
