TORONTO – The Directors Guild of Canada (Ontario) is letting the film world’s glitterati know when they shoot in Toronto “we’ve got talent sought after by the biggest names in film and television,” according to Alan Goluboff, chair of the DGC Ontario executive board.
“The messaging is a little tongue-in-cheek,” he added in the press release, “but we’re just reminding our friends at the studios that when they shoot in Toronto,” they need to know the best live and work here.
With the help of creative agency partner Juliet, DGC Ontario has launched “Hey, Hollywood”—an ad campaign on billboards and other outlets in Los Angeles and area, designed to put Ontario’s creative chops at the forefront, says the DGC release.
“Messages like, ‘Hey, Warner Bros. Wondering if you should produce your next picture with Toronto directors? Just ask Hulu. And Handmaid’s Tale’s 11 Emmys,’ all end with one central call to action: make more with Toronto talent,” says the DGC. The URL expands as a “swipe right” style mini rolodex featuring Ontario directors, production designers and editors that L.A. bigwigs need to know.
The Guild that represents 5,000 members nation-wide with over 700 key creatives in Ontario has seen a pattern. While their editors, designers, and directors are racking up some of the world’s biggest awards, Hollywood has been sluggish to catch up to the trend, adds the press release.
The campaign, running in L.A. from August 19th to September 5th, picks up in Toronto through the duration of TIFF, as Hollywood’s elite swarms “Hollywood North”
