TORONTO – We’ve all seen the jump by TV shows to broadcast on the Web. The tide the other way round is heading to Alliance Atlantis.
Original online content produced by Heavy.com will air in primetime on Showcase Diva, Showcase Action, and IFC. As reported recently by Cartt, Heavy is one of the Web’s leading online brands for 18- to 34-year-old guys.
Among the shows to go from pixels to picture tubes include “Behind the Music That Sucks,” a look at why bad music surrounds us, which will air on Saturday nights on IFC beginning on Sept. 8; “Superficial Friends,” which is “dedicated to selfishness and social ignorance,” to air irregularly on Showcase Diva starting in August; and “The Heavy Half Hour,” the best of Heavy shows, including “Kung Fu Jimmy Chow,” premiering on Oct. 6 on Showcase Action.
“Heavy’s irreverent content is a perfect fit for our channels,” said Marni Shulman, vice-president of content, IFC, Showcase Action, and Showcase Diva. “We’re thrilled to offer our viewers an exclusive look at these hysterical, edgy shows.”
“Heavy is across all media platforms internationally, but this is the first chance for Canadians to watch Heavy on television,” said David U.K, vice president and general manager, Heavy Canada. “Showing our programming on Alliance Atlantis’ channels in primetime will introduce Heavy to a fresh set of viewers and undoubtedly strengthen Heavy’s role in Canadian entertainment.”
