Hawtin to receive Rosalie

TORONTO – Inspired by Rosalie Tremblay, music director of CKLW-AM in Windsor from 1967-1984 “The Rosalie Award” honours Canadian women in broadcasting who have blazed new trails.

Next week, Jane Hawtin will be recognized and honoured for her achievements by friends and peers at the 3rd Annual Women in Broadcasting Breakfast, March 9, 2007.

A broadcaster, producer and entrepreneur, Hawtin began her career in radio in 1976 at CKLC in Kingston. She piled up a number of firsts including first female news director in private radio (Q107) and first female talk show host in private radio (CFRB 1010). When Hawtin added television to her resume in 1995 she continued to break ground, winning several awards as either host or executive producer of over a 1,000 hours of fact-based/entertaining programming created by one her five television production companies.

In 2002 Hawtin created and hosted a 17-part radio series called "Stranded." It was the first time that CBC Radio had commissioned and purchased a radio series from an independent producer. Hawtin is currently fill in host for As it Happens, Metro Morning and Here and Now on CBC radio and has an after school TV program for aboriginal teens called The Link airing daily on APTN.

“I wasn’t aware that I was blazing trails when it was happening," said Hawtin, "I was just loving what I was doing and looking for new challenges to keep it interesting! Radio was and is my favourite medium and I’m honoured that CMW feels I made a contribution.”

Tickets for the breakfast are $35 and are available from the Rogers Wireless Canadian Music Week offices or www.cmw.net.
