Hale takes new CHUM position


TORONTO – Maria Hale has been appointed to the newly created position of vice-president, content business development, CHUM Ltd. announced today.

In this new role, Hale (right) is responsible for identifying new business and revenue opportunities that are incremental to CHUM’s existing core business, exploiting new forms of commerce and distribution on emerging platforms, said the press release.

Reporting to the senior v-p, content, with a direct line of report to the executive vice president, radio for all radio-related issues, Hale also oversees CHUM’s successful Interactive department.

”Maria’s experience in both television and interactive businesses and her keen understanding of the ever-evolving broadcasting industry make her perfectly suited to developing and exploring innovative ways of doing business across new platforms,” said Roma Khanna, senior vice president content, CHUM Television, in announcing the appointment.

“In an increasingly competitive marketplace, Maria’s background, entrepreneurial spirit and strategic leadership will help further CHUM’s position as an industry leader.”

Hale moves into this role from her previous position as vice-president of Citytv Toronto where she was responsible for both the strategic planning and growth of Canada’s largest independent television station and its day-to-day operations.

Hale joined CHUM Television in 1999 as managing director, CHUM Television Interactive, spearheading all new media initiatives for the company and leading the award-winning team that designs, produces and distributes CHUM’s content and channel formats across all digital platforms including interactive television and wireless.

She was instrumental in creating integrated television and new media sales opportunities across the company’s extensive and exclusive brands, generating a significant revenue stream for CHUM Television.

Prior to joining CHUM, Hale held various executive positions in media companies Excite.ca, TMP Worldwide.

An active member in both television and new media communities, she is a member of the Canadian Association of Broadcaster’s digital policy committee and a board member for the McLuhan International Festival of the Future. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Western and an MBA in Business Administration, specializing in International Business, from McMaster University.
