MONTREAL – The mid-summer NHL playoffs are paying off so far for Quebecor Media’s TVA Sports.
The first three games of the Montreal Canadiens-Pittsburgh Penguins series, (August 1, 3 and 5) drew 37.6% market share among adults aged 25 to 54 and a peak audience of 1,238,000 viewers in game three, according to Numeris numbers, in a release from the broadcaster. Game four is Friday at 4 p.m. and the Habs have a 2-1 best-of-five series lead.
“Against all expectations, summer means hockey in Quebec this year and we are seeing excellent results for our sports channel,” said Patrick Jutras, senior vice president and chief advertising officer of Quebecor and TVA Group in the press release.
“Having the playoffs in the middle of the summer is definitely an unprecedented situation and we didn’t know how fans would respond. Under the circumstances, we have been striving to bring our viewers the best possible television product and we are very pleased to see that our efforts have paid off. The numbers tell the story: Quebecers have remained loyal to the Canadiens and to TVA Sports.”
Ed note: How badly are Quebecor execs hoping the Canadiens finish off the Penguins and advance?
All the NHL games carried by TVA Sports (which has the French language rights to the NHL, sublicenced from Rogers Sports and Media) are also being broadcast on streaming platform TVA Sports direct.
