Gray gets bigger job

TORONTO – Richard Gray, the station manager at A-Channel Vancouver Island, needs new business cards.

Effective immediately, Gray is now also the head of news for the A-Channel stations and will report to the CTVglobemedia corporate group, and not CTV News, "thereby ensuring independent news presentation and management," assures the press release.

Gray will now oversee local newsrooms for the A-Channel group in Barrie, Ottawa, London, Wingham, Windsor and Vancouver Island in addition to CKX Brandon.

"Richard has had a very successful history in small and medium market local news. He has recently built a successful news operation at A-Channel Vancouver Island. He is the ideal choice to continue building these strong local news franchises," said Ivan Fecan, president and CEO CTVglobemedia, in a release.

The station was acquired by CHUM in 1997, at which time Gray was responsible for moving the news operations to Ottawa, in addition to launching the local morning show.

In 2004, he was appointed station manager of A-Channel Vancouver Island, immediately rebuilding of all local television operations including the news department. "Under Richard’s leadership, the station has received 40 awards of excellence including 20 international, national and provincial news awards," notes the release.
