GREENWICH, N.S. – In another Connect to Innovate announcement today, the federal government said it will invest $26.4 million to bring broadband to 64 rural and remote communities and up to 80 institutions in Nova Scotia.
The announcement was made by MP Scott Brison, president of the Treasury Board at Bishop Hall in Greenwich, (just down the road from Wolfville, but about an hour northwest of Halifax).
Of that money, $17.7 million will come from the federal Connect to Innovate program; $1.2 million will come from the Nova Scotia Internet Funding Trust (to be confirmed by trustees) established by the Government of Nova Scotia; $6.9 million will be provided by the applicants; and $517,000 will come from other sources.
Bell Canada will receive $388,331 of that cash for three projects that will provide five communities, including one Indigenous community, and four institutions with access to high-speed Internet services. The release did not name the communities.
