Governments of Canada, Ontario invest $1.6M to bring high-speed Internet to Perth County

PERTH COUNTY – The governments of Canada and Ontario announced today they are investing almost $1.6 million in partnership with Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) to bring high-speed Internet to over 380 homes and businesses in Perth County.

A Government of Ontario press release indicates this funding includes over $219,500 from each level of government through SWIFT for a project connecting over 110 homes and businesses in the communities of Slabtown, Bornholm and Willow Grove.

The project was completed by Tuckersmith last month and has a total value of $979,024, according to SWIFT’s website.

Additionally, the federal and provincial “governments are each contributing more than $613,000 to support construction of an additional infrastructure network in Perth County, to provide access to high-speed internet service for more than 270 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Britton and Tralee in December 2022,” says the province’s press release.

This project is being completed by Mornington and has a total project value of just over $2 million, according to SWIFT’s website. Construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 1, 2022, with service provided by the end of the year.

Both high-speed Internet projects included in today’s announcement were originally announced by SWIFT in March 2021.
