Google’s Motorola unveils new Moto X smartphone

TORONTO – Motorola’s new Moto X smartphone, launched today, is its first new significant product since being acquired by Google.

Available in Canada exclusively through Rogers, the new Moto X features a number of new innovations, including a unique curved back design, touch-free voice activation and a 10 megapixel camera that’s ready to go with two flicks of your wrist.

The Motorola Connect extension for Google Chrome lets users you see and respond to notifications and text messages from their desktop if their phone is not nearby. The Motorola Migrate features lets users pair another phone to the Moto X through WiFi to transfer photos, texts, SIM contacts, as well as some other settings.

“At Motorola our roots are deep in mobile hardware – we invented mobile communications,” said Odile Guinot, vice-president of sales and general manager, Motorola Mobility Canada, in a release. “Now, as a Google company, we've become the kind of company that can build a smartphone like Moto X. It fuses our history of mobile innovation with the best of Google mobile services.”

The Moto X smartphone will be available in black or white exclusively to Rogers Wireless customers this August starting at $189.99 on select two-year plans.
