A WALL STREET JOURNAL report says CBS Corp. has reached an agreement with Google for carriage of its TV content on a web TV service which will launch in 2017 as a YouTube service.
Google is also said to be in talks with 21st Century Fox and Walt Disney Corp. to carry channels on the new service, apparently dubbed Unplugged and aimed at those cord cutters or cord nevers who want or need cheaper TV.
It’s not known if the web TV service will launch in Canada, but most of these sorts of services developed Stateside do not come here (like Hulu, for example) – or come here in a limited or with a more limited catalogue (like Netflix), because our own media companies own the rights here for popular content (including from CBS, Fox and Disney).
