TORONTO – In what may be music to Canadians’ ears, Google launched its popular Play Music streaming service in Canada on Monday.
Offering access to 25 million songs on all devices, the service allows subscribers to select a web stream or tune in to its digital radio channels. Users may also buy music from Google's online store and upload tracks or their own digital music collection (up to 20,000 songs) into a cloud storage locker.
Play Music is pre-installed on all Android devices, and can be downloaded for iOS from the Apple App Store. The service is priced at $9.99 per month, but users who sign on before June 30 will receive an introductory rate of $7.99 per month.
To celebrate its Canadian debut, Google said that it will offer select Canadian albums, such as Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’, Bryan Adams’s ‘Reckless’ and Drake’s ‘Nothing Was The Same’, for $1.49.
