Golden West gets Golden Hand

WINNIPEG – Golden West Broadcasting Ltd. was the recipient of two Golden Hand Awards for its contributions to community service. The rural Manitoba broadcaster received the awards from Volunteer Manitoba at a ceremony at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Wednesday, April 26, for its radio stations in Steinbach (MIX 96.7 FM and 1250 AM) and Portage La Prairie (CFRY 920 AM and 93.1 FM).

"It is what we do," says Elmer Hildebrand, Golden West’s president who is based in Altona in southern Manitoba. "We encourage our stations to get involved in their local communities. We help local organizations promote their acitivies and raise money for local causes."

Standard Radio and its Winnipeg stations, Hot 103 FM and QX104 AM also received a Golden Hand Award for their annual radiothon in support of Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital. As reported earlier in CARTT, the stations’ 2006 radiothon (April 19-21) raised $511,000.
