Globalive to launch two wireless brands

TORONTO – New wireless provider Globalive Communications has asked its future customers what they would like in a provider, and accordingly, announced that it will bring two distinct brands to the Canadian market later this year.

“We have received thousands of great ideas and opinions, but more than anything, what we’ve really learned from Canadians is that a one-stop-shop won’t work for wireless," said chairman and CEO Anthony Lacavera in the announcement. "Ultimately, Canadians want choice which is why Globalive is planning to launch more than one brand so that we can give Canadians the options they’re looking for."

The company, which launched a wireless-themed on-line forum called WirelessSoapbox.com last Fall encouraging ideas and opinions, said that it has received nearly 10,000 comments from the approximately 100,000 visitors to the site.

According to the announcement, topics that appear “especially important to Canadians” are customer service, and a general dislike of system access fees. Many comments also called for features like voicemail and callerID built directly into wireless plans.

Globealive also announced an update to the site, which, among other initiatives, will see Lacavera host “live soapbox chats”. He has invited other Canadian wireless leaders to join him in a live forum called ‘Wireless Around the World: How does Canada stack up?’  The date for the live soapbox forum will be announced in the coming weeks.
