Globalive may buy Mobilicity: report

TORONTO – Wind Mobile parent Globalive is in talks to acquire fellow wireless newcomer Mobilicity, according to a Bloomberg report. Quoting unnamed sources, the report said that Globalive is targeting Mobilicity because it uses compatible wireless frequencies, plus owns wireless spectrum in Quebec which would give Globalive a national footprint.  The purchase, which would increase Globalive’s customer base by more than 50%, may come as early as the first quarter of 2012, the report continues. Globalive chairman and Wind Mobile CEO Anthony Lacavera hinted to Cartt.ca in August that consolidation between the new wireless entrants was a possibility.
