TORONTO – Three Global Television operations executives were recently let go by CanWest MediaWorks, www.cartt.ca has learned.
Last week, director of broadcast operations at Global Television Ontario, Ed Holmes, and Ann McGuire, director of post production and technical services for Global Ontario were both fired in what was termed a restructuring, a source told www.cartt.ca.
Holmes had been with Global for 28 years, McGuire for six, four of which was spent with CanWest’s former production arm, Fireworks Entertainment.
And, in October, Global’s director of engineering, Ed Yiu, was also fired. Yiu was with Global for 25 years before leaving to help launch CHUM’s New VI in Victoria, then returning to Global Ontario in the summer of 2004.
According to a memo from Peter Ashkin, CanWest MediaWorks’ president, technology group and business ventures, the new structure will see Marc Bonke, supervisor of broadcast operations, oversee the on-air operations area in place of Holmes and report to John O’Connor, vice-president, national broadcast engineering.
Chris Hoddinott and Cindy Boyd stay in their current broadcast operations supervisory roles and report directly to Bonke.
As for McGuire’s former area of production, Roger Ivey – director of mobile video productions and production services will be assuming responsibility for post production.
Several calls to Global on Monday requesting comment or to see whether this is part of a broader restructuring were not immediately returned.
