TORONTO – Global Television will broadcast the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards in January, jointly with the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.
The awards, sponsored by the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF), will take place on Jan. 27 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, and will air nationwide on Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. ET.
“We are very excited to become a part of this outstanding national ceremony, and to partner with NAAF and APTN in honouring achievement and excellence in our Aboriginal communities,” said Barbara Williams, Global’s Senior VP of Programming and Production.
The NAAF and APTN say the wider exposure on Global will better showcase Aboriginal talent. “Together with APTN, Global will offer many more Canadians a rare opportunity to celebrate the achievement of Aboriginal people in Canada,” said Roberta Jamieson, NAAF CEO.
“We are confident that this new partnership will allow a new audience to view what has become the showcase event of the year for First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples,” said APTN CEO Jean LaRose.
The awards were created in 1994 to celebrate and promote positive role models to Aboriginal youth.
