TORONTO – Global has renewed original Canadian detective drama Private Eyes for a second season after what it described as its “hugely successful” first season this summer.

The broadcaster said that the Entertainment One-produced series averaged over 1 million viewers (Ind. 2+) per episode, prompting it to order an additional 18 episodes.  Production is set to begin in Toronto this fall.

The series follows private investigators Matt Shade (Jason Priestley) and Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson) as they lead Everett Investigations together and test each other both professionally and personally.

Private Eyes was an instant success for Global audiences and we are thrilled to welcome back a second season,” said Maria Hale, Corus’ SVP Global entertainment and content acquisition, in the news release.  “We look forward to seeing what’s next for Shade and Angie as their relationship continues to evolve.”

“We are delighted that Private Eyes attracted such a loyal following,” added eOne Television Canada president Jocelyn Hamilton. “Right out of the gate, the audience embraced our show with incredible enthusiasm. We are so grateful to the fans and excited to deliver a tremendous sophomore season that will keep them all hooked.”
