Global News to air Covid-19 special Monday night

TORONTO — Global News will air a national news special Monday night in an effort to deliver the facts about the Covid-19 crisis and also to explore the personal stories of people impacted by the novel coronavirus outbreak, including one of the network’s own news personalities.

Coronavirus: Canada in Crisis will air across Canada tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT, 8 p.m. MT and 11 p.m. AT on Global. The news special will be led by Global National anchor Dawna Friesen, who will be joined by Global Toronto’s Farah Nasser.

Amidst the battle to flatten the curve, the special will highlight loved ones in lockdown, front-line workers and thought leaders, as they chronicle the crisis in their own words. Guests will include: federal health minister Patty Hajdu, tennis superstar Bianca Andreescu, and Dr. Bruce Aylward, senior advisor to the director-general of the World Health Organization.

Also as part of the news special, a Global News personality will publicly confirm their positive Covid-19 diagnosis and share how the virus has affected them and their reporting, says the news release.

“This is the biggest story of our time. As a trusted news source, it is more important than ever for Global News to distribute important health, safety and economic information and help the country separate qualified facts from fiction,” said Kenton Boston, vice-president of national and network news, Global News, in the news release. “Coronavirus: Canada in Crisis will both analyze the facts and show how families nationwide have been impacted through powerful human stories.”

The special will be available on other Global digital platforms, too, live and in replay.
