Corus Radio announced Tuesday its national weekend morning show host Ben O’Hara-Byrne is stepping away from the airwaves to join Global News BC as its Victoria-based legislative anchor and reporter, starting March 16.
O’Hara-Byrne joined Corus Radio in January 2022 as the host of national weeknight program A Little More Conversation with Ben O’Hara-Byrne, before moving over to Weekends with Ben O’Hara-Byrne last summer.
With more than two decades of journalism experience, O’Hara-Byrne previously worked as Global News’ Ottawa correspondent from 2005 to 2008, and later served as the network’s Asia correspondent in Beijing. In 2010, he was hired by CTV News as its Asia bureau chief, before being transferred to CTV’s London, U.K., bureau where he served initially as correspondent and eventually bureau chief until 2015.
After returning to Canada, O’Hara-Byrne served as anchor and producer of the weeknight newscasts for CHEK News in Victoria from 2015 to 2019. He then stepped away from journalism for a two-year stint as senior manager of external stakeholder engagement for the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation, before joining Corus Radio in 2022.
With O’Hara-Byrne’s move to Global News BC, his hosting duties at Corus Radio’s national weekend morning show are being assumed by seasoned broadcaster Rob Fai, beginning the weekend of March 21. A Corus Radio press release announcing the hosting changes said the show “will continue to focus on delivering the most current and up-to-date news to listeners, with live call-ins, debate, and colour commentary.”
Fai brings more than two decades of experience in broadcasting and communications, and he has been a radio talk show host at Corus Radio’s CKNW in Vancouver since September 2023. Prior to that, he was a sports radio talk show host at Bell Media’s TSN radio station in Vancouver for 14 years.
