VANCOUVER – TV viewers giving their opinions on web cams is a new twist to Global National’s election coverage.
The broadcaster said it experienced more than 10 times the normal visitor traffic on www.globalnational.com thanks to interactive features like the Video Soundoff tool where Canadians submitted their own political opinions as well as web camera video recordings, some of which aired on Global National’s post-debate special.
Continuing with its "Decision Canada" election coverage, other features on the site include an online virtual bus where viewers can send in their own photos and cell phone videos from the election campaign and watch video blogs from Global National reporters who are on the campaign trail.
"The overwhelming response of Canadians coming to Global National and using our online Soundoff features clearly show that Canadians want to be engaged in this election campaign," said George Browne, executive producer of GlobalTV.com. "The fact that we are able to reach out directly to Canadians both on-air and online giving them the opportunity to speak out and voice their opinions, is an accomplishment we are very proud of."
In addition, Global National partnered with Ipsos Reid and broadcast immediate poll results from the viewer survey taken before and after the debate on how the leaders performed and which leader Canadians thought won the debate.
