Global greenlights new Canadian legal drama


TORONTO – Corus Entertainment today announced today a series of new shows and renewals, including new production Family Law.

From Seven24 Films and Lark Productions, Family Law (10×60) begins production in Vancouver this spring as casting and pre-production are currently underway. Global also announced n order for second seasons, in advance of their broadcast premieres, of its upcoming 2020 dramas Nurses, (10×60) from eOne and ICF, and Shaftesbury’s Departure (6×60).

“Today’s announcement underscores our long-term commitment to producing scripted Canadian content with creators who reflect diversity both on camera and off, and delivering that content to audiences on our largest platform – Global,” said Lisa Godfrey, Corus’ vice-president original content.

Set in Vancouver, Family Law follows lawyer and recovering alcoholic Abigail Bianchi, who is struggling to put her career and family back together after hitting rock bottom and who goes to work at her estranged father’s firm. The showrunner is Susin Nielsen, executive producers are Tom Cox and Jordy Randall (Seven24), and Erin Haskett (Lark Productions).

Other Global originals returning to the network in 2020 include season four of Private Eyes (eOne) and season eight of Big Brother Canada (Insight Productions). Also, Corus original series Vikings (TM Productions and Take 5 Productions), is currently on air with its sixth season Wednesdays at 9 p.m. History.
