Global gets personal with its forecasts

TORONTO – Global Television launched a new, personalized weather forecast for its on line viewers today.

"Forecast 4 Me", which the company says is "the first personalized online local weather service of its kind in Canada," will debut exclusively across Ontario, with a national "key-market rollout" arriving in the coming months. (Ed Note: The Weather Network has been sending out personal weather e-mails for years.)

The new service is a partnership with MyWeather LLC and will see Global Television provide customized forecasts for up to four local zones per user – targeted by postal code and delivered directly to subscribers via e-mail and online.

Besides an ad message or two, subscribers will receive:

* Personalized e-mail messages from their local Global News meteorologist twice daily, featuring the latest weather forecast. In Ontario, reports are courtesy of Global meteorologist Anthony Farnell and weather specialist, Bill Coulter.

* Daily weather trivia.

* Live links to a personal forecast page, featuring: Seven-day local, national and world weather; satellite and radar imaging; recreation, air-quality and pollen updates; hour-by-hour weather information for up to four locations – (home, cottage, golf course, golf course)

The debut of Forecast 4 Me is sponsored by Ontario Tourism.
