Global adds Jeff Probst, Ricki Lake to daytime

TORONTO – Global is adding two new U.S. talk shows – The Jeff Probst Show and The Ricki Lake Show – to its daytime lineup this Fall.

The network declined to reveal what current programming will be dropped to make room for the new shows, telling Cartt.ca that details will be released at its upfront presentation scheduled for May 30.

The Jeff Probst Show is a one-hour talk show that will cover topics ranging from relationships and family dynamics to newsmakers of the day, and families and individuals facing challenges. Probst is best known for hosting all 11 editions of Global’s reality hit Survivor, as well as a regular fill-in for Regis Philbin on Live With Regis and Kelly.  Probst will also executive produce his new daytime series.

The Ricki Lake Show will cover topics that interest the modern day woman, reflecting where the actress and her audience are now in their lives. Ricki is not an expert. She’s not a doctor, therapist or a super homemaker – she’s a working mom trying to figure life out, and inviting her audience along for the ride.

“For over a decade, Jeff has been holding centre court at Tribal Council and he’s still as engaging as ever. Jeff’s charisma and ability to connect with others is why audiences fell in love with him on Survivor and why they’ll follow him to daytime,” said Barb Williams, SVP of content for Shaw Media, in the announcement.  “Equally impressive, we have the incomparable Ricki Lake back in the talk show genre. Although Ricki has grown up in the Hollywood spotlight, she has always maintained herself as a relatable celebrity figure. This fall, Ricki returns with a whole new set of life experiences and true to form, she is eager to share them with her audience.”
