Glentel ties opening of new flagship store to fundraising goal

VANCOUVER – To mark the two-year anniversary of its partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, Glentel is promising to donate $5 from every wireless device purchased at its new flagship store in downtown Vancouver over the Canada Day long weekend.

The multi-carrier wireless retailer said that it will also offer customers a $100 credit to spend at the new Tbooth wireless store on select handsets, while street teams will be out to demo the latest gadgets.

In addition, RIM is joining Tbooth wireless’ efforts and will donate $5 from every BlackBerry purchased at any of Glentel’s 295 stores across Canada during the month of July. The proceeds will go towards Camp Goodtimes, a summer recreation program for children and teens fighting cancer.

Having already raised over $1.4 million for CCS, Glentel said that it is on target to exceed its initial fundraising goal of $1.5 million over a three-year period.

"We are delighted that the anniversary of our partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society will coincide with the opening of our flagship store," said president and CEO Tom Skidmore, in Wednesday’s announcement. "Through corporate donations, employee incentives, as well as in-store customer contributions, I am pleased by how generously the Glentel community has embraced this great cause."
