TORONTO – Too bad This Is Wonderland didn’t score with Canadian viewers the way it has with Gemini nominators.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced the nominees for the 21st Annual Gemini Awards this week.
Cancelled CBC lawyer show This Is Wonderland leads all shows with 14 nominations, followed by Movie Central’s and TMN’s ReGenesis with 10 nominations. The Ceeb mini series Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story and the fifth estate follow with nine nominations each and One Dead Indian (CTV), At the Hotel (CBC) and Slings & Arrows (TMN, Movie Central) round out the top five with four nominations each.
"We are thrilled with the exceptional television made in Canada and it’s an honour to celebrate our unique stories and recognize these achievements with the Gemini Awards," said Maria Topalovich, president and CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, in the press release. "This year marks the beginning of a new era for Gemini Awards. For the first time since its inception the Awards Gala is relocating to Vancouver promising to infuse the celebration with renewed enthusiasm and the possibility of a new tradition of mobility."
The Canadian television industry will gather in Toronto at the Liberty Grand on October 16th, 17th, and 18th to honour and celebrate the news, documentary and sports Gala, lifestyle, children’s and youth Gala and drama, comedy and variety Gala.
The Gemini Award show will be held at the River Rock Show Theatre at the River Rock Casino Resort in B.C. on November 4th
