Game 7 of World Series the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever

Rogers announced Monday an average audience of 10.9 million viewers watched Saturday’s Game 7 of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers on Sportsnet, Sportsnet+ and Citytv, making it the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever.

Rogers said in a press release 18.5 million Canadian viewers, or 45 per cent of Canada’s population, watched at least some of Game 7, which lasted 11 innings before it ended after midnight. Average audience peaked at 14 million around 11:38 p.m. ET when Ernie Clement came to bat with the score tied at 4-4, the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 9th inning, according to Rogers.

Viewers tuned in early on Saturday and stayed late even after extra innings, with an average of 2.3 million watching Sportsnet’s Blue Jays Central pregame show, and an average of 1.2 million staying tuned in to postgame coverage, Rogers said.

The entire World Series averaged 7.5 million viewers, with 23 million Canadians tuning in at some point, Rogers said, adding that the seven World Series broadcasts were the seven most-watched Blue Jays games ever.

According to Rogers, the average audience for each game of the World Series was:

  • Game 1 – 7 million
  • Game 2 – 6.6 million
  • Game 3 – 5.8 million
  • Game 4 – 6.2 million
  • Game 5 – 7.2 million
  • Game 6 – 9.4 million
  • Game 7 – 10.9 million

Overall, the MLB postseason on Sportsnet averaged 2.5 million viewers and reached 24.8 million Canadians, Rogers said.
