MISSISSAUGA – Samsung issued a press release late Monday to say it is working with relevant regulatory bodies around the world to investigate the recently reported cases where its Galaxy Note7 devices catch fire.
There have been multiple reports this year of the smartphones overheating and catching fire and even after Samsung recalled all of the handsets (the Note7 was launched in May) and began replacing them, there have since been more recent reports of some of the replaced devices also catching fire.
“Because consumers' safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place,” reads the release.
“At Samsung Canada we remain committed to working diligently with regulatory authorities, carriers and our retail partners to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation,” it continues.
“Canadian consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device. Details of the remedies available for Note7 customers, which will include a full refund at their place of purchase, will be announced shortly.”
