Gailus moves back to Global

VANCOUVER – Global BC has hired Chris Gailus as its new weekend News Hour anchor.

The appointment follows the recent departure of news anchor Suzette Myers who is now an independent documentary producer.

"Chris will be a great addition to our news team especially given his experience in the U.S. We are delighted that Chris has decided to come back home to our Global family," said Ian Haysom, news director of Global BC. "Chris is an accomplished broadcaster with a loyal following and we know our viewers will love him."

Gailus (left) is no stranger to B.C. since his parents live near Salmon Arm and he has other family members in Squamish and Vancouver. Originally from Calgary, he joined Global Calgary in the mid 1990s and rose quickly.

He later moved to Dallas for ABC News and in April 2003 joined Fox News’ Good Day New York as co-anchor. He recently won an Emmy Award for best "Single Morning News Program" at the 49th Annual New York Emmy Awards. He has reported on major stories including the deployment of troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Columbia shuttle disaster.

Gailus will start at Global BC on May 1st.
