Four CSUA scholarships awarded

TORONTO – The inaugural CSUA Broadcast Technology Awards were handed out this month by the Canadian Satellite Users Association.

The Awards are scholarship prizes of $5,000 each. CSUA established the national bilingual post-secondary scholarship program in order to encourage an interest in broadcast engineering as a profession. The program is managed by Studentawards Inc.

The applicants were ranked on weighted scores for academic performance, academic reference letter and an original essay. The essays, which represented 60% of the final score, were reviewed and marked by a panel of CSUA members on a blind test basis.

The winners are:

Peter Chng – 4th year Electrical Engineering at Queens University
Chad Erven – 4th year Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary
Graham Lettner – 4th year Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta
Simon Ramage – 3rd year Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria

“Being awarded this scholarship in my final year has been even more beneficial: In addition to easing my financial burden, I also feel honoured to be recognized for my accomplishments during the course of my studies, “ wrote Peter Chng.

Established in 1988 to promote equitable access to satellites for broadcasters, the CSUA has expanded its mandate. The Work Plan now includes fostering interoperability of broadcasting services across multiple distribution platforms, providing timely education and the exchange of information on critical technical operational matters of interest to its members. The membership of CSUA include the broadcast networks, specialty, pay, pay per view and educational services as well as four major BDUs.
