Former national team goalie Rhéaume joins RDS hockey experts

MONTREAL — Bell Media’s RDS today announced former Canadian women’s hockey goaltender Manon Rhéaume (above) is joining the French-language sports broadcaster’s team of experts.

Every Monday, starting today at 7 p.m. ET, Rhéaume will share her opinions about hockey on L’Antichambre during a segment called “Sur son 33.”

Rhéaume is the only woman in history to have participated in an NHL game, donning the Tampa Bay Lightning uniform for a pre-season game in September 1992, at the age of 20. As a member of the Canadian national team, Rhéaume helped Canada win a silver medal at the Nagano Olympics in 1998 and two gold medals at the world championship (1992 and 1994).

“Her unique background in professional hockey, her knowledge and the relevance of her opinions to hockey today make her a perfect addition to the group already in place at RDS,” said Charles Perreault, vice-president of news at RDS, in an English translation of the Bell Media press release.

“I am very happy to officially join the RDS team,” said Rhéaume. “RDS offers me a new way to live my passion for hockey and I can’t wait to reconnect with the Quebec public!”

Rhéaume is currently a speaker and coordinator for the Little Caesar Women’s Hockey Program, a minor hockey program associated with the Detroit Red Wings, and she is also the coach of the under-12 team there.
