Former broadcaster Patrone is latest CRTC commissioner

OTTAWA – Marc Patrone has been hired as a full-time member of the CRTC announced Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today.

“I’m delighted to welcome Mr. Patrone to the CRTC," said Minister Verner, in a release. "During his career, he has been involved in numerous aspects of television news-gathering and production. His experience will greatly benefit the CRTC."

Patrone has been involved in the broadcasting industry for a number of years, says the release. His professional experience includes service as a producer-writer with the Atlantic Television System; a writer-broadcaster with Broadcast News/Canadian Press; a reporter, videographer and editor with the Global Television Network and the Atlantic Television System as well as a news anchor and sports reporter with Scarborough Television. Prior to his appointment to the CRTC, Mr. Patrone worked as a broadcast journalist and legislative and general assignment reporter with CTV Atlantic.

He was also a one-time Conservative candidate in Nova Scotia who, according to a Canadian Press report, quit as candidate before the 2005 election.

(Ed Note: And for a government that reputedly distrusts or dislikes journalists, Patrone is the third one appointed as a CRTC commissioner in the past seven months following Michel Morin and Peter Menzies.)
