TORONTO – Apple Pay and Google Pay have some Canadian competition with the launch of the world’s first universal mobile wallet application using Soundpays.
The Toronto-based fintech technology start-up said that the exclusive technology allows secure consumer transactions to be made using inaudible sound waves, and is not limited to near-field communication technology.
Soundpays integrates into content; be it broadcast, video or digital advertisement, enabling instantaneous purchasing with no “friction” for the user and no additional cost for marketers, reads the company’s news release. This allows brands to engage the viewer in an unobtrusive manner.
In addition, and unlike Apple Pay and Google Pay, Soundpays allows merchants to sell to consumers with any mobile phone without adding new hardware.
To celebrate its Canadian launch, which is currently available in the iTunes App Store, Soundpays has partnered with seven national charities in the creation of The Sound of Caring Campaign. Visitors are invited to watch a promotional video, while the embedded inaudible Soundpays signal allows customers to make a $5 donation using the mobile wallet application.
