TORONTO – Cynthia Lynch has been named managing director and counsel of FilmOntario.
A public policy professional specializing in the cultural industries, Lynch spent over ten years at the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) in a variety of roles, starting as a tax credits business officer and most recently as the manager of research, strategic planning and IT. In 2012, she left the OMDC to pursue legal studies at the University of Ottawa, where she focused on the areas of communications law, intellectual property, privacy and technology. While in law school, Lynch worked with both the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic and the Public Interest Advocacy Centre.
Interim managing director Mimi Wolch will continue to serve the consortium until Lynch starts at the beginning of July.
“Ms. Lynch brings a wide range of expertise and experience to FilmOntario,” said Wolch, in the announcement. “Her knowledge of production financing, public policy and relevant law will serve our constituency well. We are very excited to bring her on board.”
FilmOntario is an industry-funded, non-partisan screen-based (film/television/digital interactive) consortium of 31,000 companies, producers, unions, guilds, financial services and organizations within Ontario with an emphasis on marketing Ontario as a screen-based content creator and production jurisdiction.
