Feds award $4.2 million in UBF funds for more rural Ontario projects


OTTAWA — The federal government today announced more broadband projects in rural Ontario funded through the rapid response stream of its $1.75-billion Universal Broadband Fund (UBF), with the awarding of $4.2 million in funding to Lakeland Energy and Bell to bring high-speed Internet to 1,550 homes in southeastern Ontario. The $4.2 million in UBF funds are earmarked for three projects that will deliver high-speed broadband to underserved households in the rural Ontario communities of South River, Emsdale, Burk’s Falls, Sundridge, Greenhurst-Thurstonia, Dunsford and Pakenham.
