Fairchild and Talentvision raise almost $2.3 million


TORONTO – The charity event "Together for China – Earthquake Relief Telethon" brought to Chinese Canadians nationally on Friday by TV channels Fairchild and Talentvision, raised a phenomenal $2,286,300 across Canada.

The event was a national earthquake relief effort by Fairchild Television in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross featuring renowned performing artistes from Asia, Eric Tsang, Jackie Cheung, Alan Tam, Aaron Kwok, Hacken Lee and more popular singers from Hong Kong and representatives from Canadian organizations appealing and presenting pledges to help the earthquake victims.

The program was simulcast on Shaw TV Cable 4 and Shaw Multicultural Channel, Cable 109. Shaw, Rogers, Cogeco and Telus, Star Choice also made Fairchild Television available to customers across Canada for the duration of the telethon. On Talentvision, a special fund-raising program was aired from 8:30 p.m. EST highlighting the complications of rescue efforts and the devastating everyday life of the victims.

A toll free number from Red Cross 1-866-533-8053 with over 100 designated phone lines and a website was effective on Friday to assist in taking donations. In addition, Fairchild Television and Talentvision contributed all commercial revenues generated within the programs to the China Earthquake Relief Fund. A Red Cross donation box had also been placed at Fairchild Television’s office located at Aberdeen Centre, Vancouver accepting donations from the general public during office hours.
