OAKVILLE – The Weather Network and MeteoMedia this week launched an interactive weather application on Facebook, the social networking site.
Available in English and French, the application allows users to view current conditions and short term forecasts for cities of their choice within their Facebook profile.
Users can access long term forecasts, weather warnings and alerts and other valuable weather information for over 5,000 cities in Canada and around the world.
In addition to weather data, the application offers the ability to send messages and current forecast information to Facebook friends. This unique messaging function was created by a team of in-house developers at The Weather Network and MétéoMédia and will help making plans, travel arrangements or setting dates with friends, say the companies.
“We believe this new application will quickly become a favourite among Facebook users,” said Carrie Lysenko, manager of online applications for The Weather Network and MétéoMédia, in a release.
According to Facebook, over 61 million people are active users and Canadians are among the most active users with over 7 million people regularly using the site. More than 95% of Facebook members have used at least one application.
