TORONTO – The syndicated entertainment news magazine show Entertainment Tonight (ET) is the first customer to use video switching centre The Switch for transmission services to Canada.
In addition to the multi-year HD transmission service agreement ET signed with The Switch last year for service between New York and Los Angeles, ET will now use The Switch’s Inter-City on Demand (ICOD) transmission service to reach ET Canada at the Global Television studios in Toronto.
“Canada is a key market for us,” said Dan Henry, executive in charge of production for Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, in the announcement. “We are pleased that The Switch has extended its network capabilities to Toronto. Their ICOD system is both convenient and efficient for our production.”
The Toronto Switch, located in downtown Toronto, is connected to The Switch’s network via eight duplex SDI paths between New York and Toronto, and is also connected via SDI circuits to the Toronto Bell TOC. Customers of all locations of The Switch will be able to connect to The Toronto Switch through The Switch’s ICOD service.
The Switch was created in 1991 to provide cost-effective, customer controlled television and audio signal routing services to the broadcast industry. Owned by Beers Enterprises Inc., Toronto marks the newest location of its six-city network, and its second international location after London, England.
