MONTREAL — Canadian cloud and data centre provider eStruxture announced today it has signed an agreement to acquire all of Aptum Technologies’ eight Canadian data centres along with all customers and employees associated with its colocation business.
The transaction will mark eStruxture’s entry into the Toronto market and will expand its national footprint, with the company already having six data centres in Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. With the addition of the new facilities (five in Toronto, two in Montreal and one in Vancouver), eStruxture will increase its total footprint to more than 600,000 square feet of combined data centre space and a total IT capacity of 100 megawatts, says the company’s press release.
The acquisition of Aptum’s facilities (Aptum was once Cogeco Peer 1) — including data centres in two of Canada’s largest “carrier hotels” located at 151 Front Street West in Toronto and 555 West Hastings Street in Vancouver — will add more than 200 new network providers to eStruxture’s ecosystem, including access to the Toronto Internet Exchange (TorIX) and the Vancouver Internet Exchange (VANIX). Aptum will continue to be one of eStruxture’s largest customers in Canada.
“This acquisition allows us to significantly scale our platform, further expand our reach and customer base in the Vancouver and Montreal areas, and enter the Toronto market in a meaningful way. eStruxture is proud of its Canadian roots and is committed to continuing to invest in our economy, create more jobs for Canadians, and offer a data centre platform that is ideal for companies that want to grow or establish their footprint in Canada,” said Todd Coleman, president and CEO of eStruxture, in the press release.
In a separate announcement, Aptum said the transaction is expected to close during the second quarter of 2021, subject to certain closing conditions. The sale of its Canadian colocation business is designed to free up resources to accelerate Aptum’s continued implementation of its core hybrid multi-cloud managed service offerings, says the company’s press release. The transaction does not include or impact Aptum’s data centres in the U.S. or U.K., says the company.
In May 2020, Aptum sold its WAN business to Beanfield Metroconnect.
