EMAs live, on line


TORONTO – A week before the MTV Europe Music Awards will be available on tape on CTV, the show will be carried live, on line, by MTV in Canada and on its portal MTV Overdrive

The specialty service is promoting the November 2 show (Hosted by Justin Timberlake) with eight different 30-second teasers on MTV, a 30-second spot featuring Timberlake and a 30-second spot announcing presenters and performers. The online broadcast is sponsored (in Canada only) by LG’s Chocolate Phone and Virgin Mobile.

On Thursday, November 2nd, the EMAs will begin with a one-hour Red Carpet Special on MTV at 2 p.m. hosted by rapper Fat Joe, co-presenter of MTV’s Pimp My Ride; then at 3 p.m. ET; the awards show will begin live on MTV Overdrive "delivering a triple screen experience," says the release, and finally, on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 12 midnight ET, highlights from the EMAs will be rebroadcast on CTV.

On MTV Overdrive, viewers will be able to customize their viewing experience by choosing between three concurrent video streams for the first time in Canada, including the main EMA awards show from the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, the entire separate Rådhuspladsen Town Square concert event featuring Keane, The Killers and the Danish R&B collective Outlandish, and thirdly, the EMA backstage show hosted by actress Juliette Lewis and her band The Licks. Following the broadcast, highlights from all three streams will be available on MTV Overdrive to be viewed on-demand at any time.

"The EMAs are one of the most explosive, star-studded music events in the world," said Brad Schwartz, senior vice-president and general manager for MTV in Canada. "We certainly expect people to blow off work or school for a few hours and watch the show from the comfort of their desks."

The triple stream access on MTV Overdrive allows viewers to have their questions answered by music artists via the live backstage chat, see the entire musical performance roster and check out the main broadcast, all via their computer. Backstage access gives fans VIP tickets to the biggest music event in Europe. It’s an on-demand ticket to what is going on before, during and after the show.
