TORONTO – The Broadcast Design Association (BDA) awarded Global News A Gold Design award at the Promax/BDA awards in New York last night.
It won the award in the category of Best Informational Graphics-News for the Global Television Network’s Decision Canada 2004 Federal Election broadcast.
The design project was a joint venture between Global News and Montreal-based VertigoXmedia.
The award comes on the heels of a number of major awards for Global News’ election coverage, including a Radio and Television News Directors Association award and the international Edward R. Murrow award.
The design package included opening animations, results boards, tickers, maps and other graphic elements that conveyed election results. The dynamic 3D and 2D animations featured a bold, sophisticated, viewer-friendly design.
"The BDA awards have always represented the very best in broadcast design and this recognition clearly signals that Global News is a North American leader when it comes to the presentation of news and information content," said Vern Freedlander, Global News’ executive creative director for the Federal Election project.
Global’s Federal Election package was designed by staff graphic designer Simon Reid and by VertigoXmedia’s creative services department led by Anton Maximovsky. Ron Waksman served as executive producer of the 2004 Federal Election broadcast.
